Desk Shelf

To stay sharp on longer comissions, I sometimes take a break to compete with myself in a one-day design/build challenge. I had a nice piece of quilted maple salvaged from a friend's recently restored pre-Civil War barn in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont (sides and shelves). He had also given me a chunk of maple that had come out of the floor of the stalls and had been stained by all manner of things (drawer front). I needed more room on my drafting table and decided to build a desk shelf to organize. The long, shallow drawer accomodates drawing implements and rulers, while the shelves hold reference books and whatever else usually gets in the way of drawing. I gave it a day, and as usual when I compete with nobody, it was a long day. L 27 x W 8 x H28.
