Sam Table

A friend in landscape design school had started a mahogany coffee table and lost momentum, so I found myself with my first couple of imported boards since my boatbuilding days. I had been toying with ideas around minimalism and the efficiency of small-scale manufacturing. In fact, this table is the first iteration of a number of concepts currently on the drafting boards at cranewalk. Carved mahogany top on white ash legs. This type of through mortise and tenon joinery is remarkably strong- it would be very difficult to compromise this table through use and abuse. Easily produced by a single craftsman in a number of shapes and sizes, with joinery you can't hide with glue and filler... a future for the craftsman in America?
